Airfryer Mosselen

Crispy Airfryer Mussels

Mussels are a versatile and delicious delicacy often associated with summer days and seafood feasts. But did you know that you can also make crispy mussels at home using an Airfryer? This recipe shows you how to quickly and easily prepare crispy mussels that are perfect as a starter or snack. And best of all, you don't have to use a deep fryer, which means less fat and less mess.

Recipe: Crispy Mussels from the Airfryer

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 egg
  • 6 tbsp panko
  • Pepper and salt
  • 250 g cooked mussels
  • 4 tbsp Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 sprigs of parsley
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • 2 slices of lemon

Preparation method:

1. Preheat: Preheat the Airfryer to 180°C.

2. Preparing the mussels: Prepare three bowls. Fill the first with flour, the second with a beaten egg, and the third with panko mixed with plenty of salt and pepper. First coat the cooked mussels in the flour, then in the egg and finally in the panko. Make sure the mussels are completely covered with an even layer of each coating.

3. Baking in the Airfryer: Place the breaded mussels in the Airfryer and fry them for about 8 minutes until they are crispy and golden brown.

4. Make garlic sauce: While the mussels are baking, make the garlic sauce. Mix the Greek yogurt with the mayonnaise, garlic powder, half of the finely chopped parsley and the lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper.

5. Serving: Remove the crispy mussels from the Airfryer and serve them with the homemade garlic sauce, the remaining finely chopped parsley and a slice of lemon for a fresh touch.

Tips for Perfect Crispy Mussels from the Airfryer:

1. Use panko for extra crispiness:
Panko, a Japanese breadcrumb, provides an extra crispy texture. If you don't have panko, you can use regular breadcrumbs, but the results will be slightly less crispy.

2. Fresh vs. boiled mussels:
Boiled mussels are used for this recipe. Make sure you dry the mussels thoroughly before breading them so that the coating sticks well.

3. Variations in spices:
Add your favorite herbs and spices to the panko mix for a unique flavor. Think of paprika powder, garlic powder or even grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.

4. Healthy Dipping Sauce:
Try different dips in addition to the garlic sauce, such as a fresh yogurt dip with lemon and dill, or a spicy aioli.

With these simple steps and tips you can enjoy crispy, flavorful mussels that are perfect for any occasion. The Airfryer not only makes preparing this dish easier, but also healthier!
