Green Asparagus with Ham and Thyme Butter | From the Airfryer

Green Asparagus with Ham and Thy Butter from the Airfryer

Ingredients:

  • Green asparagus: 18 pieces
  • Raw ham: 3 slices
  • Butter: 50 g
  • Fresh thyme: 1 tbsp
  • Pepper: to taste

Preparation method:

Step 1: Preparing the asparagus

  • Rinse the asparagus thoroughly under cold water and cut away the woody ends if necessary.
  • Bring a pan of salted water to the boil and blanch the asparagus for 2 minutes.
  • Prepare a bowl of ice water and immerse the blanched asparagus in it to stop the cooking process. Drain well and pat dry with kitchen paper.

Step 2: Making thyme butter

  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and add the fresh thyme leaves. Stir well so that the thyme aromatizes the butter. Let it rest for a while.

Step 3: Wrap asparagus in ham

  • Halve the slices of raw ham lengthwise.
  • Roll three asparagus spears at a time in half a slice of ham. Make sure the ham is firmly around the asparagus, but not too tight.
  • Place a sheet of baking paper in the air fryer basket to prevent sticking.
  • Place the asparagus rolls on the baking paper. Depending on the size of your airfryer, you may need to do this in multiple rounds.

Step 4: Airfryer baking

  • Set the airfryer to 180°C and bake the asparagus rolls for about 5 minutes until the ham is crispy. Check in between to prevent burning.

Step 5: Finishing and serving

  • Carefully remove the asparagus rolls from the air fryer and arrange them on a plate.
  • Sprinkle generously with the warm thyme butter and season to taste with a pinch of freshly ground pepper.

Serving idea:
This dish is a festive side dish that goes perfectly with a main course of chicken, fish or potato dishes. Also delicious as part of a buffet or as a snack.

Tip: For extra flavour, add a little lemon zest to the thyme butter, or replace the ham with smoked salmon for a luxurious version.

Enjoy your meal!
