Filet-O-Fish from the Airfryer

Want a healthy, quick version of the classic Filet-O-Fish? With the airfryer you get a deliciously crispy fish fillet without all that frying oil. Here is a simple recipe to make this delicious meal yourself!

Ingredients:

  • 2 white fish fillets (e.g. cod, pangasius or tilapia)
  • 2 hamburger buns (preferably a little soft, such as white or whole wheat)
  • 2 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon yogurt (for a healthier version)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon dill (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 50 g panko (or regular breadcrumbs)

For the sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Preparation method:

  1. Make the sauce: Mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, vinegar and sugar in a bowl until smooth. Set aside.

  2. Prepare the fish:

    • Pat the fish fillets dry with a paper towel.
    • Sprinkle them with salt and pepper to taste.
    • First, coat the fish fillets in flour, then in beaten egg, and finally in panko. Make sure the fillets are well coated with panko for a crispy crust.
  3. Setting up the airfryer: Preheat the airfryer to 180°C.

  4. Bake the fish: Place the breaded fish fillets in the basket of the airfryer and bake for 8-10 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets. Turn them halfway through the baking time, so that they become nice and crispy on both sides.

  5. Prepare the rolls: Cut the rolls in half and toast them briefly in the air fryer or on a grill pan, if desired.

  6. Stack the Filet-O-Fish: Spread a little of the sauce on the bottom half of the bun. Place the crispy fish fillet on top and add a slice of cheddar cheese, if desired. Top with the top half of the bun.

  7. Serve: Serve the Filet-O-Fish immediately with a little extra sauce on the side and a fresh salad if desired.

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, you can add some dill or other herbs to the sauce.
  • For a healthier option, use whole wheat buns or replace the mayonnaise in the sauce with Greek yogurt.

Enjoy your meal! 😋
