Ingredients:
- 250 ml water
- 60 g butter
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- pinch of salt
- 150 g flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, for extra flavor)
- Sugar to roll the churros in
- Vanilla sugar (for extra vanilla flavor)
- White/brown chocolate (for garnish)
Instructions:
-
Prepare the dough:
- Place the water, butter, sugar and a pinch of salt in a pan and heat over medium heat until the butter has melted.
- Add the flour all at once and stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms a dough ball. Keep stirring and bake the dough for a few minutes so that it does not remain too wet.
- Remove the pan from the heat and let the dough cool slightly. The dough should not be boiling hot, so that you can add the eggs without them curdling.
- Add the eggs to the dough one at a time. Mix well until each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next.
- Add the vanilla extract and, if desired, the cinnamon and mix everything well.
-
Preheat the air fryer:
- Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) for about 5 minutes.
-
Shape the churros:
- Place the dough in a piping bag with a star-shaped nozzle. This gives the churros their characteristic shape.
- Cut off the ends of the piping bag so that the dough comes out properly.
-
Air frying:
- Pipe the dough into pieces (about 8-10 cm long) on the bottom of the airfryer. Make sure there is enough space between the churros so they can cook evenly.
- Let the churros stiffen in the freezer for 15 minutes.
- After the churros come out of the freezer, spray them with a layer of oil.
- Bake the churros in the air fryer for 10-15 minutes at 180 degrees, until they are golden brown and crispy.
-
Sugar coating:
- Mix some sugar with a little vanilla extract (and possibly some cinnamon) in a bowl. Remove the churros from the airfryer and roll them immediately through the sugar.
-
Serve:
- Serve your vanilla churros warm, possibly with a dipping sauce such as white/brown chocolate or caramel sauce. Enjoy!
Tips:
- For an extra crispy texture, you can brush the churros with a thin layer of oil before placing them in the air fryer.
- Pay close attention to the churros in the airfryer, as they can brown quickly. The cooking time may vary depending on the model of your airfryer.
Enjoy your homemade, fluffy vanilla churros!
